whats the big hoo-ha over the blogs here in singapore? it's getting very old and tiring. why should a student get reprimanded for typing some harmless (albeit derogatory) stuff about her teacher? i'm sure everyone of us has met a "frustrated old spinster" who seems to have a fetish over long skirts in our schools. so it really is isnt very new, is it?
why the hell should they be suspended? it seems that our private thoughts are now being violated. sure it was written down on a blog and it was there for everyone to see; people from that school especially. but do you really think that'll damage the reputation of the teacher, considering that we badmouth many teachers behind their backs in school anyway? it really doesnt make sense. i'm sure that the teachers are aware that we do say mean stuff about them or their collegues but are professional enough to not take it to heart. this is especially so for discipline mistresses, who seems to walk around with a huge bullseye over their necks or a signboard that says 'insult me'. i mean it's part and parcel of being in a school. so why the big deal?
besides, what do they think will result from the posting of such remarks on the net? i'm sure what was written down on the blog was an opinion shared by at least 50% of the class already, so there is no fear of spreading negative influences. (the remaining 50% are nerds who think nothing more of their teachers other than walking emotionless textbooks). will we take some sort of action (the violent kind)? i dont think so. many of us just gossip and defame about our teachers alot and it ends there.
i just dont understand it. this is such a trivial matter.
